This show is a mini segment of Pittsburgh Artist, Curtis Reaves, illustrating his select photographic works featuring,

'People & Found Objects from the past 25 years."

Curtis is a Video Artist & Photographer, whose work has been shown both locally & nationally at some of the most prestigious museums across the country.

Curtis is best known for his traveling exhibition, John & Sarah - A Family's Journey to Freedom and Elders - An African American Oral History.

Some of his other accomplishments include: Being chosen as a Millennium Artist for the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, receiving various Artists & Residencies and conducting Community & Educational Workshops.

Regarding this particular show, Curtis states that, "For me, 'Image Interlude: Episode in Time,' is about the Exploration & Manipulation of Imagery. It's all about the Rhythm, the POP and the Interlude of the Composition."

Lord Oliver

July 1, 2010. Oh, approximately 7.30 pm. I got home from work and poured a glass of wine and sat outside amongst my hearty herbs in gloriously coloured pots, twinkling lights strung whimsically across tree fallen winter branches. The outdoor rug is a recycled bohemian gypsy woven colourful plastic spread. I happen to love my tiny outdoor paradise. The chiminaya was filled with locally grown organic twigs and the night air was settling in with a cool july 1 , 52 degrees. Oliver loves to sit outside with me, by my side or on my lap. I always have his harness on when we are in this tiny patio area, but this night, i neglected to put his leash on. He was eating his dinner and staring lovingly thru me, and snuggling up to my lap. Oliver decided to snatch a little french olive from my plate. Not wanting him to swallow it, i asked him to "drop it". On this night, my Oliver, now 17 months of joy, young, decided to tease and play. He took off running thru the cobblestone alley way. I ran after him, trying to tempt him with a banana treat. In a split second, Olivers tiny perfect swimmers muscular body was struck by a speeding car. I screamed and screamed and then collapsed inside of the cobblestone ancient covered walkway outside of my back courtyard where only moments ago, we were peacefully sitting together. Olivers head was hit and i watched his body propelled thru the air and slam into another building. I dont know what happened immediately after that, but i found myself screaming and hyperventilating as i ran with the neighborhood, after Oliver. Oliver took off running in a traumatic frightened and shock filled state. He ran all the way to the new nationally known state of the art, childrens hospital. He was foaming at the mouth when i finally had my arms around him.

Within 30 minutes, Oliver was taken immediately at the Camp Horne Road emergency vet hospital. Hours later, xrays and bloodwork, my Oliver came home with me. His bones are intact. His organs are intact. He was sent home with pain medicine.

Tonight my Oliver is doing much better. He is bruised and not exactly himself and his happy little spirt yet. He ate my mothers "made from scratch free range organic chicken broth" that i mixed with his familiar dry kibble and chopped up bananas and skinned granny smith apples.

It takes only a moment for your entire joy and life and love to change. Every moment that your animal is happy, is a gift.

Thank you for all of your loving support, to heal Lord Oliver. He is one heck of a loved puppy, as well as the love and light of my entire life.

I am fortunate to experience dynamic women and men, all day, every day at my salon. Most of you are working non-stop and wearing an incredible amount of hats of responsibility and performance per day. You are daughters and sons, mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, grandmothers and grandfathers, aunts and uncles, husbands and wife's, leaders at home and in your job and community. You fit absolutely everything in, from work responsibilities to family responsibilities. You do it all and you do your best and you do a really good job because you care.

I find that in my travels from Pittsburgh to Santa Fe New Mexico, that east coast people are running themselves into the ground. Everything is on a scheduled time restraint. Everyone is creating an atmosphere of "this is due immediately and so is everything else". As a matter of fact, i lost a guest this week because i myself, was running 4 minutes behind schedule. FOUR MINUTES! What does this say about people, their expectations of others as well as themselves, and the lack of allowing any grace time for anything or anyone. On the same afternoon that this guest left due to "the condition" of my running 4 minutes late, i also gained 2 lovely new guests. Both were looking for complete peace, time to themselves, and interaction with me to give them a better cut than what they walked in with. Both left happy and rescheduled. (i was still running 4 minutes behind for both of the happier guests that day)

People come to Salon Christine to be pampered. People come to Salon Christine to relax and take a deep breath. People compliment Salon Christine's staff for being cordial and professional. Salon Christine is known for excellent personalized haircolour and haircutting. The atmosphere is always comfortable, the music is always easeful and the service is professional. Bonus...everyone has the opportunity to hug our seriously happy and polite, Lord Oliver.

I encourage "you" to remember to relax and take the time to enjoy a much needed break. If you are spending your days rushing from one appointment to the other, i suggest taking a look at your personal calendar and scheduling some "you " time asap.

Greetings!

I am Lord Oliver Goodis, owner of Christine Goodis, the best mom on the planet!!

If you don't know this by now, my mom is the Master Stylist/Colorist at Salon Christine and together we are quite a team!

While Christine styles, colors, directs and pampers her guests, I provide them with endless entertainment as I race to greet everyone at the door, scamper through the salon, nap on my throne or indulge them in a game of toss the blue hippopotamus - one of my favorite toys!

My girlfriend Lola,is half lab, half pit bull and all shiny black just like me. She lives in a gorgeous loft across the street from my salon. Lola and Christine's friends are coming to celebrate my one year birthday party with me tomorrow! I hope to see you here, with champagne and puppy treats . I couldn't be happier or feel more grateful to be loved by everyone I meet and I look forward to sharing more wonderful salon adventures with you.

Sunday Evenings

Sunday evenings are a ritual for me. Do you believe in rituals? Do you live with traditions? I certaintly do, and i love them. Be it alone or with loved ones, friends and family, i love and look forward to my personal traditions and rituals.

When i had my huge 100 year old home, every room on a sunday was re organized and cleaned. The hard wood floor sparkled, and the candles at dusk were lit. Classical music is my choice of peace for the morning hours. A book with glorious pages of recipes is opened, strong african coffee is brewed, and a plan is made. These days, Lord Oliver is by my side, figuring out which recipe is the best to make for the week. His opinion matters to me, so we consult together.

Grocery shopping was done , most likely, the night before or the thursday morning before, depending on the season. I much prefer the local farmers market on thursday mornings in the spring , summer and fall. Talking to all the locals, is the best part. The "goodmornings and how have you been and how was your week and what has grown this week" is my favorite way to start my days. (Have you been to the Union Square Market in Manhattan? Its amazing and ever so joyful. The markets in Santa Fe New Mexico as well as Pittsburgh are exquisite in their own expressions, as well)

Around 4 pm, i start my recipe. I open a bottle (or two) of some good red wine. I like to collect lovely tiny glasses from all over the world and sip wine from them. My cats used to sit on the couch and blink softly with approval , at my choices. Lord Oliver prefers to sit , stand or lye next to me and occasionally woof out a comment or two or three.

The chopping or slicing begins. The flavors explode into the air and the bluegrass music is turned on. Sips of wine are drunk between recipes. An occasional cheer to a loved one, is quietly (or outwardly) expressed. More of the squeezing, pressing, chopping , slicing, sauteing,brewing, tossing, marinating. The next few hours of preparing are joyful and always include some sort of olive oil and garlic. (I cant live without it)

Then there is the halfway point, where everything is steaming or poaching or brewing or marinating or grilling, or all of the above all at the same time, when i pick up Lord Oliver and do a swing dance with him. ( I personally think he enjoys is as much as i do)

Bluegrass gives me the feeling of home. "Downhome cooking" as they claim. Whatever it is i'm preparing, its an enjoyable ritual and tradition. One of health and intention filled with good organic produce and fresh "whatevers". The best part of it, is in the summertime. I dare you to turn your air conditioning off, put on an old fashioned kitchen apron, pull your hair back, swig a shot of wine, open some windows, and steam a pot of craw fish. Turn the oven on and bake some cornbread. Get out your favorite skillet and saute some local collards in oil. Turn on the stove and make a cream sauce to go over all of it, not caring one bit about the caloric intake. Oh yes, the sweat will drip off of your forehead and down the back of your neck.

I dare you, to let go in the kitchen.

January 2010 Cultural District Events

Its damp , cold, rainy, snowy and simply all that January brings to the lovely city of Pittsburgh. Its a great time of year to stay home and snuggle in an oversized sweater or blanket. Personally speaking, i can stay indoors for a long time and love every moment of it. Then there are the times, that i just need to feel pretty and go out somewhere.
There are 2 weeks left in January. Here are a few of the events going on that you just may want to dress up and leave your cozy home for. A few hours of going out, does the mind good. Socializing is essential to humans. Laughter is essential to humans. Communicating is essential to humans.

Intention

I was that little girl that never had the courage to catch anything other than rain drops and snowflakes on the tip of my tongue. Sports? Forget it. I bruised and I cried and I was the last one to be picked on the bleachers in gym class. I couldn't swim and I sure couldn't even pass gym class with anything above a grade D.

As any young competitive and curious mind wanders, I thought, "I can do this", and I decided to build my own version of physical strength. The pastures and back country paths that I walked on, turned into glorious and furious running events for me. I even coerced my younger brothers to drive my old Chevy in back of me. The moon was high and they were under age, on these back country paths, with the headlights lighting the way and me running in front of them as they cruised with the windows down and some sort of 70's rock or funk music on the radio at full blast. Oh, the memories are priceless.

Today I do yoga. Today I am an excellent runner. I may not be able to catch a softball and I may just continue to duck in complete and utter fear from a volleyball plowing full force through the air, but running became my strength and freedom and yoga became essential to my well being.

Schoolhouse Yoga is fantastic. It offers many different levels in 3 different locations. I love to go to the Schoolhouse Yoga in the strip district, next door to my favorite grocery store, Right by Nature. I attend my class and then I go to the grocery store after class, to fill my reusable cloth bags with fresh greens, fruits and fish. Kombucha is my drink of choice these days, other than the 64 ounces of water that I drink on a daily basis. Often I will cut a hunk of fresh ginger and steep it in boiling water, and that will be my hot drink to indulge in, before climbing into my favorite place in the world...my bed, my sanctuary of fluffy pillows, billowing blankets and colorful dreams. At the end of each and every day, my thoughts go through the bedtime checklist. Do you have a bedtime checklist? Mine includes the people and family that I know and love, wishing them joy,peace and good health. After I go through that list, I thank myself for doing the best that I could do, just for today. ZZZZZZZ..........

So, my friends, my intentions this year involve many. The checklist has begun to present itself, with check marks beside each intention.
